Favourite carols and festive tunes have here been creatively arranged for the beginner quartet (Grade 1-2+) by the ever-resourceful Mary Cohen. From the more solemn to the extremely boisterous, these arrangements explore a wide range of musical styles as well as many interesting string effects (including simple harmonics, col legno, pizzicato and tremolo). Conscious of the limited rehearsal time available in the mad rush up to the annual carol service or Christmas concert, Mary has also provided invaluable technique tips to help deal with problems which might otherwise disrupt the musical flow. There are plenty of opportunities for audience participation too for the more adventurous!

Highlights include jigs, waltzes, reels, marches, as well as Old Time, Celtic, Eastern European, and North American tunes.
Like no other, Aleksey Igudesman has mastered the art of fascinating and inspiring budding musicians by showing them the beauty of music from all directions, be it classical music, klezmer or other world music. This book takes the musician on a stimulating, challenging, but above all enjoyable journey through Aleksey's own world of klezmer. His additional pointers, as well as the pieces themselves, will help the player familiarize themselves with klezmer and Eastern European music, not only in terms of technical issues, but also in terms of their nature. These compositions are simply of excellent quality. (Julian Rachlin)
With bowings and fingerings. Baroque and Classical Period. Jean-Marie Leclair, who is considered to have founded the French violin school, was born in Lyon on May 10th, 1697. Famed as both violinist and composer (many suites, sonatas, and concerti survive, along with his sole opera, Scylla et Glaucus), he drew successfully upon all of Europe's national styles.

10 violin duets, all about cats, to challenge, provoke and above all, enjoy. In the words of Aleksey Igudesman himself "these are not the most conventional children's pieces. But I do not believe that children are conventional either." The pieces are unusual - certainly, and they will undoubtedly make an impact on young players with the support of illustrations, poems, notes from the composer and a CD with inspiring demonstration performances and play-along tracks for both 1st and 2nd violins. The poems come with the recommendation to "read them out loud before you perform the pieces and you are guaranteed a smiling public!"
Following his popular violin duet album Klezmer & More, Aleksey Igudesman's worldwide wanderings take us into the diverse realms of Celtic Music. In his own inimitable style, he will energize and inspire middle-grade to more advanced players to explore Celtic music. His own arrangements through to his own pieces are all truly celtic in spirit. Added notes on the pieces and helpful basic guidelines for playing in style are provided.
The six sonatas by Benedetto Marcello (1686-1739) are among the best-known baroque compositions for violoncello and basso continuo, second only to those by Antonio Vivaldi. Marcello was a famous composer during his lifetime, and consequently his collection could be found in printed editions in the major European music metropolises of London, Paris and Amsterdam. Even if there is some uncomfortable fingering in these sonatas - which might be due to Marcello's working with a five-string cello with an added E' string - they are of only moderate difficulty and belong to the standard works of the violoncello teaching literature.
