Composed and arranged by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, this beautiful, romantic waltz is the title cut of their critically acclaimed CD on Angel Records. This melody has become one of their most requested tunes in concert. Perfect for weddings, this carefully prepared violin solo or duet arrangement with piano accompaniment presents the theme 3 times through, beginning in G and modulating D. The piano/violin score also includes suggested guitar chords. The arrangement accurately captures the rhythms, harmonies and chord voicings of Jay and Molly's concert and recorded performances. Convenient pull-out parts are provided for the violinists. Jay Ungar is nationally recognized for having composed and performed Ashokan Farewell, the theme of the PBS series The Civil War. The Lover's Waltz is also available in a solo piano edition be Molly Mason.

Dmitri Shostakovich composed his 24 Preludes, Op. 34 for solo piano in 1932-33, just after completing his controversial opera, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. Not too long after their composition, a handful of the preludes were transcribed for violin and piano by violinist Dmitri Tsyganov of the Beethoven Quartet, the group that premiered many of Shostakovich's string quartets.
The sonatas by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) are without doubt among the best compositions for violoncello and basso continuo created in the baroque era. Of these works, it is the Sonata in E minor (RV 40) which enjoys particular popularity. This is why it has been taken from the edition of the six sonatas (ED 4927), published by Walter Kolneder, and is now presented by Schott in a separate edition. Now, even the cellist who does not want to purchase the complete edition can enjoy the wealth and beauty of Vivaldi's art of composition.
The Concerto for Two Violins in d minor, BWV 1043 by J.S. Bach (also known as the Double Concerto) is a prime example of the late Baroque style. It exhibits Bach's utter command of counterpoint, with fugal sections and tight imitation between the two violins. For the violinists, it is simultaneously a solo work and a chamber work: both violinists take turns as the "soloist," but the scope of this music is so much bigger than the notion of "soloist" that it quickly becomes not two voices vying for prominence, but one voice with two parts. While all three movements are rich in melody, harmony, and texture, the sublime second movement may be, in this writer's opinion, one of the most beautiful pieces ever composed. An indispensable work for any violinist!
The arrangements in this new series were written especially for violin, viola, and cello, taking into account the specific needs of each instrument. All the arrangements are completely compatible with each other and can be played in small ensembles or as solos. Each book features a specially designed piano accompaniment that can be easily played by a teacher or intermediate piano student, and a carefully crafted removable part, complete with bowings, articulations, and keys well suited for the Level 2-3 player. Each song on the fully orchestrated accompaniment CD includes a demo track, which features a live string performance, followed by the play-along track by itself.
