Here is a facsimile edition of Francis O'Neill's classic 1907 collection of jigs, reels, hornpipes and other dance tunes. The Dance Music of Ireland has proved so valuable to musicians and has been circulated so widely that it has become known simply as "the book" a virtual bible for many traditional players.
These tunes form the very corner stone of Irish music sessions. They crop up with such regularity that it s vital that you are able to play them. Every type of dance tune is represented: reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas, slides, slip jigs, marches, set dances, waltzes, mazurkas, flings, a varsovienne, a barn dance, a single reel and a single jig. Session friendly settings: Learn them as written and you can be sure of having accurate versions. To help those whose music reading skills only extends as far as finding the notes.

Transcribed and edited by one of Herman Johnson's former students, this book offers 39 solos in the inimitable smooth, precise, and innovative Johnson style. Inspired in his youth by Bob Wills of the Texas Playboys, Johnson learned tunes by listening to records and the radio. At 16, he successfully auditioned to play in Willis' band, but was then too young to join the musicians union. Johnson went on to a distinguished career as a performer and contest fiddler, winning the National Fiddling Championship in Weiser, Idaho five times, the only player to reign undefeated each year he entered the contest. He also won the Oklahoma State Championship in Nashville. Many of the intermediate to advanced-level selections in this collection were drawn from Johnson's 1993 recording, Simply Perfect.
Fifty-plus themes and excerpts from the standard classical violin solo, symphonic and chamber literature, arranged for two violins with chords. For players desiring short recital vignettes, repertoire for casual engagements, or simply an introduction to the genre. Most numbers can be played by solo violin.
